You create an email address in Plesk via the Mail tab: you choose the part before the @, select your domain, set a password and confirm — after that the mailbox can be used straight away.
Preparation
First log in to the control panel; how that works is described in logging in to Plesk. Think about two things in advance:
Which address do you want?
For example info, administratie or a person's name.
A mailbox or just forwarding?
Should it be a real mailbox, or just a forwarding address?
Creating a mailbox step by step
- 1In Plesk, click the Mail tab
- 2Choose Create Email Address
- 3Type the part before the @Select the right domain after it, if you have more than one.
- 4Switch on the mailbox optionSet a maximum size if you wish.
- 5Set a passwordYou can also let the user set a password themselves, via a link sent to their own email address.
- 6Click OKThe mailbox is created.
The address is usually active within a minute. Write down the details and pass them on securely to the user, preferably not in the same email as the password.
Setting up the mailbox on a computer or phone
Would you like to receive your email in a program such as Outlook, Apple Mail or the app on your phone? Then use these settings:
Incoming mail
Server mail.uwdomein.nl
Port 993, with SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail
Server mail.uwdomein.nl
Port 465 with SSL, or port 587 with STARTTLS
Your full email address
So including the part after the @.
The mailbox password
The password you have just set.
Choose IMAP, not POP3
Want to read your email on several devices? With IMAP everything stays on the server and your folders are the same everywhere.
Switch on authentication for outgoing mail
Otherwise you can receive email, but not send it.
Aliases and forwarding
Not every address needs its own mailbox.
Alias
An extra address that arrives in an existing mailbox. Handy for, say, verkoop@ beside info@.
Forwarding
Incoming mail automatically goes to another address.
You will find both options in the settings of the email address.
